Gina Torres is an American television and film actress, best known for her roles as Cas in the movies "The Matrix Reloaded" and "The Matrix Revolutions" and Zoe in the series "Firefly" and its film continuation "Serenity", as well as for her episodic roles as Nebula in the series "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys" and Cleopatra in the series "Xena: Warrior Princess".
Early Life
Gina Torres was born on April 25, , at Flower Fifth Avenue Hospital in Manhattan, New York. She is the youngest of three children. Her parents were Cuban immigrants, with her father working as a typesetter at La Prensa and later at the New York Daily News. Her mother was a dedicated and artistically gifted homemaker. The family lived in Washington Heights for a short time before moving to the Bronx. She grew up in the diverse neighborhood of Grand Concourse, predominantly populated by Latin Americans, whose culture she began to embrace.
Believing that her future lay in show business, Gina enrolled in the

With her fan-favorite character of Jessica Pearson on USA Network’s hit original series “Suits,” Torres broke boundaries when, in , she became the first Afro-Latina to create, star in and produce a TV series, “Pearson,” which saw Jessica take on the world of Chicago politics.
