Born to Run is a vignette of stories surrounding British middle-distance track and field icon, Sebastian Coe. The book discusses Coe's rise to prominence as an m and mile athlete in the lates, his duels with domestic rivals Ovett and Cram and his Olympic experiences in and A lot of the materials in the book comes from direct (long) quotes from Coe himself, his father-trainer, Peter and other rivals from the era. As huge fan, it was exciting to read about his world records and Olympic triumphs (two gold meals and two silver) in a six-year span starting in Though oddly, with a title Born to Run, the book does not discuss Coe's upbringing or life outside of running. In fact, it's not much of a focused biography at all, dedicating entire chapters to Coe's rivals, Ovett and Cram, and curiously, to the politics of British athletics. As a side note, it was fun to read that Coe anticipated that London, and not Manchester, would be a better Olympic bid for the UK (London would get the Games in ). Sir Sebastian Newbold Coe, Baron Coe, was born on September 29, , in Chiswick, London. He grew up in Sheffield and became a member of the 'Hallamshire Harriers' athletic club at the age of Coe's father, Peter Coe, trained him to become a professional middle-distance runner.

Coe represented Loughborough University, where he studied economics and social history, and celebrated his first major victory in at the European Championships in San Sebastián, Spain. He then met coach George Gandy, who significantly improved Coe's training methods.
