AKTIVIS buruh ini hobinya menyanyi. Pernah ikut marching band dan paduan suara di kampus, akhirnya ia berkenalan dengan gerakan mahasiswa. Dua awards dari luar negeri belakangan diterimanya sebagai penghargaan atas jasanya membela kaum buruh.
Dita terlahir dari keluarga kelas menengah, anak kedua dari dua bersaudara. Ayahnya anggota fraksi Golkar di DPRD Sumatra Utara dan ibunya bekerja di perusahaan asing. Secara ekonomi, ia tidak mengalami hambatan apa pun di masa kecilnya.

Dita Indah Sari -- then Indonesia's only woman political prisoner -- was sentenced to five years jail on April 22, Her "crime" was daring to fight alongside Indonesian workers struggling for a better life.
Like Dita, thousands of the regime's opponents -- communists, radical nationalists, students, Muslims and labour activists -- have been tried for subversion and other political "crimes".
Political prisoners in particular, are often held under intolerable conditions -- poor food, limited access to friends and relatives, overcrowding, inadequate recreational activity, no provision of reading or writing materials, radio or newspapers. Many are denied access to legal protection and are detained for long periods before going to trial even though the state has yet to prove a case against them.

Dita Indah Sari dikenal sebagai seorang aktivis pejuang demokrasi dan HAM di Indonesia. Dita Indah Sari merupakan perempuan asli Medan, terlahir dari pasangan Adjidar Ascha dan Magdalena Willy F Firnandus.
Dita Indah Sari memperoleh pendidikan dasar di Medan dan mulai menapaki ibu kota Jakarta saat ia masuk SMA. Ia melanjutkan pendidikan perguruan tinggi dengan mengambil jurusan hukum di Universitas Indonesia. Bidang ini membuatnya mengenal dan mempelajari lebih dalam mengenai demokrasi dan keadilan sosial.
Dia aktif di kampus dan mendirikan Forum Belajar Bebas. Di dalam kelompok ini ia dan teman-temannya mempelajari dengan cara berdiskusi secara progresif mengenai persoalan demokrasi dan keadilan sosial.
Dari kelompok studi itu pula, ia mulai memiliki konsen kasus untuk diperjuangkan yakni permasalahan buruh. Dita Indah Sari kemudian menjadi sosok organisator buruh di wilayah Tangerang, Bogor, dan Pluit sejak tahun Tahun , ia bersama teman-teman seperjuangannya mendirikan Partai Rakyat Demokratik.
