Archbishop Ricardo Cardinal Vidal established the Archdiocesan Shrine of Blessed Pedro Calungsod in honor of the first saint from the Visayas region, Pedro Calungsod.
Calungsod was a young missionary who accompanied Jesuit friar Fr. Diego Luiz de San Vitores in Guam to spread the message of Christianity. He was martyred in , beatified on March 5, by Pope John Paul II, and canonized on October 21, by Pope Benedict XVI.
