Jonathan Swift is one of the multitudes of brilliant writers that hail from the Emerald Isles. Born to English parents in Dublin in , Swift became a product of Irish culture and learning. He was educated at the esteemed Kilkenny School and Trinity College in Dublin, and became an assistant to author and diplomat Sir William Temple in Moor Park in Surrey. He left this position after Temple died in to earn his priest's ordination, and picked up his first parish in Kilroot (near Belfast). During this mobile time of religious exploration and geographic cavorting, Swift began to explore his frustrations with society through his writings. He wrote about the poverty he saw amongst the people, he wrote about his friendships with two notable women (Esther Johnson and Esther Vanhomrigh), he wrote about the typical daily life of city folk, and he wrote about the problems he witnessed in the social order. Early Life

Jonathan Swift was born on 30th November in , in Dublin, Ireland. He was a son of Jonathan Swift Sr., an attorney, while his mother, Abigail Erick, was a homemaker. Unfortunately, his father died two months before his birth. Without a steady income, Abigail struggled hard for the survival of her family. Perhaps this poverty impacted Jonathan Swift, who was a sickly child. To get rid of another feeding mouth, his mother gave him to his uncle for a better upbringing.

Education

Jonathan Swift was raised by his uncle. He was enrolled in one of the best schools in Ireland, Kilkenny Grammar School. His transition from a poverty-stricken environment to a conscientious private school setting was rather challenging. However, he managed to perform well and developed a cordial relationship with future playwright and poet, William Congreve. He completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in , from Trinity College, Dublin, and went on to pursue a master’s degree.

    Jonathan Swift was an author, journalist, and political activist best known for his satirical novel Gulliver's Travels and for his satirical essay on the Irish famine, "A Modest Proposal."

    Born of English parents in Dublin, Ireland, Swift studied at Kilkenny Grammar School and at Trinity College in Dublin. The abdication of King James II drove him to England. During his time in England, Swift realized his great talent for satire and wrote A Tale of a Tub and "The Battle of the Books," published in Swift also decided upon a career in the clergy. When he returned to Ireland, Swift became a member of the Anglican clergy, ordained in the Church of Ireland.

He began his political career as a part of the Whig political party but in switched sides, becoming a Tory and taking over the Tory journal The Examiner.
