Jean Nouvel - A Renowned French Architect
Jean Nouvel, a famous French architect, was born into a family of teachers. Initially, he aspired to become an artist, but his parents desired a more serious education for him, so he enrolled in the architecture program at the Higher School of Fine Arts in Bordeaux. In , he won a scholarship and continued his studies at the Higher School of Fine Arts in Paris. Shortly before completing his education, he opened his first architectural firm together with François Seigneur.
Breakthrough in Architecture
In , Nouvel became one of the founders of the architectural movements "Mars " and "Architectural Syndicate." He achieved his breakthrough in architecture through his collaboration with the architecture firm "Architecture Studio" on the project for the Arab World Institute in Paris. Jean Nouvel (born August 12th, ) is a French architect. Nouvel studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and was a founding member of Mars and Syndicat de l'Architecture. He has obtained a number of prestigious distinctions over the course of his career, including the Aga Khan Award for Architecture (technically, the prize was awarded for the Institut du Monde Arabe which Nouvel designed), the Wolf Prize in Arts in and the Pritzker Prize in A number of museums and architectural centres have presented retrospectives of his work.
Family and education
Nouvel was born as the son of Renee and Roger Nouvel who were teachers. His family moved often when his father became the county's chief school superintendent. His parents encouraged Nouvel to study mathematics and language, but when he was 16 years old he was captivated by art when a teacher taught him drawing. Although he later said he thought that his parents were guiding him to pursue a career in education or engineering, the family reached a compromise that he could study architecture which they thought was less risky than art.

His career spanning almost fifty years, the Pritzker-prize-winning architect and designer Jean Nouvel has established his status as a world-renowned star architect, but the foundations of such evolution are firmly rooted in the French context.
Born in Fumel in , he declared he always wanted to be a painter, but he chose architecture for reasons of good sense: he then studied architecture at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts in Paris, where he graduated in While still studying, Nouvel embarked into an experience as a trainee with Claude Parent: in the studio of the great French radical architect, he developed an attention in stressing the avant-garde aspects of each single design proposition, a hands-on attitude consolidated through precocious site management experiences, but most of all the practice of discussion and critique — something fundamental for Nouvel’s education years around — which will set the base for his theoretical positioning within the international architectural discourse.
